| Tier 2 Minister of Religion |
| The United Kingdom's ministers of religion immigration category will allow you to come to Britain to perform recognized religious duties. This will include preaching to a community and performing pastoral roles. |
This will not include coming to the UK temporarily in a non-pastoral role to perform religious rites or other duties. These situations will be covered under Tier 5 for Temporary Workers.
As a minister of religion, you can come to the UK to lead a congregation in prayer and preach about their religious beliefs. If you are a missionary, you must have been trained as a missionary or worked as a missionary and be sent to the UK by an overseas organization.
This category will replace the existing work permit arrangements for ministers of religion when it goes live sometime in Autumn of 2008.
The principal requirements are detailed below:
- Minister of religion, missionary or member of a religious order
- Minister of religion: you must have been working for at least one year as a minister of religion or, where ordination is prescribed by your religious faith as the sole means of entering the ministry, have been ordained as a minister of religion for at least one year's full-time or two year's part-time training for the ministry.
- Missionary: you must have been trained as a missionary or worked as a missionary and be sent to the UK by an overseas organisation.
- Member of a religious order: you must be coming to the UK to live in a community maintained by the religious order of which you are a member. If you intend to teach you may do so only at an establishment maintained by your religious order.

| To come to the United Kingdom under Tier 2 for Ministers of Religion, you must be sponsored by an organization who is licensed to do so by the UK government. |
| You must earn 10 points for Maintenance, which states that you have enough funds to support yourself and any dependants during your stay in the UK. |

Extending a Tier 2 Ministers of Religion Visa |
ˆtopˆ |
If you want to stay in the UK for more than a year, you can extend your stay as long as you remain in the same position, you can show that your congregation still needs you and that you did not ask for help from public funds.
You must stay in the same employment unless you request permission from the Home Office to change your job. Permission will only be granted if you continue to work as a minister of religion and immigration regulations are satisfied.
After a continuous period of residency in the UK for five years, you will be eligible to apply for settlement as a permanent resident (also known as indefinite leave to remain).
