How to Switch into Tier 4 General Student Visa?

A applicant is able to (change) switch into tier 4 general student visa if the person is in the UK under any of the following visas –

  • Tier 2 (General)
  • Tier 2 (Intra-Company Transfer)
  • Tier 2 (Minister of Religion)
  • Tier 4 (Child)

The applicant can switch into Tier 4 general Student Visa if the applicant if is already residing in UK. The applicant should not be holding a standard visit visa to switch into Tier 4 general Student Visa. The applicant shall hold Long Term visit visa and not Short Term visit visa.

The applicant can apply only within 6 months of getting a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate. The CAS must received by the applicant before the current visa of the applicant expires but not more than 3 months before the course start on your CAS. The applicant can stay in the UK until he/she gets the decision.

There are three ways to apply for this application first is the standard service which takes 8 weeks to clear then the second is the priority service which takes about 10 days to clear the visa application, and then the third is the premium service which takes one day to clear the application. In priority service the first 60 applications filed after 8:30 a.m. in the morning from (Monday to Friday) are being taken into consideration.

You can apply online for the standard service by paying the appropriate visa fees for the application. Whereas, in order to avail the premium service the applicant has to book appointment at premium service centre. There are few places only for priority service each day. The visa fees for standard service is £457 (8 weeks for clearance), for priority service £916 (10 days for clearance) and for premium service £1047 (same day clearance).

The applicant in all the services which he takes has to go to the VFS office to give their biometrics the fees for that in some post offices are £19.20. The applicant will be told when he needs to provide his biometric information for the standard or priority service. The applicant has to do it within 2 working days if you’re using the priority service. The applicant gets a biometric residence permit if your application to extend your visa is successful.
